The Choral
The Choral (2025) is a British historical drama directed by Nicholas Hytner and written by Alan Bennett. Set in 1916 Yorkshire amidst World War I, the film follows members of a small town’s choral society that has lost most of its male singers to the war. With their original choir master gone, they recruit a new and controversial conductor, Dr. Henry Guthrie, who brings together male and female singers, young recruits, and wounded soldiers to prepare a performance of Edward Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, creating a powerful exploration of community, music, and resilience during wartime.
